CES 2015: Driverless Audi A7 completes 900km journey to Los Angeles

Following a 900-kilometre journey, the Audi A7 piloted driving concept has arrived in Las Vegas to take its place at the 2015 CES (Consumer Electronics Show). Audi says that much of the impressive feat was covered on autopilot. 

Starting in California’s Silicon Valley, the A7 3-litre quattro piloted driving concept’s long-haul test was witnessed mostly hands-free by members of the media. Unsurprisingly, Audi says it proved itself capable of providing a comfortable drive in real world, particularly in the kind of traffic that drivers encounter on a daily basis.

In total, the drive to Las Vegas was 900 kilometres long. As required by State laws in California, Audi’s test driver was on board through the drive, monitoring the proceedings from the passenger seat.

“The results of the test drive underscore our piloted driving competency said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member for Technical Development.”

Autonomous cars are big news for quite some time now, thanks to experimental efforts from known brands including Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and even internet giant Google. Audi though has taken the piloted driving technology to a different level with this extreme piloted driving demonstration.
